A Break for Processing Life

It has been few weeks lapse since I last posted and I just had a lot to process.

A dear friend of mine passed on after struggling with a brain cancer for going on 10 years, which in itself is impressive as usually the lifespan of those with brain cancer is significantly shorter.  Blaine was a wonderful individual!  Encouraging and always uplifting with his thoughts and comments and definitely not above picking on you for something silly.  Despite the pain and suffering he went through from the tumor, never once did you hear him complain about it.  He just stoically kept going.  He was a God-loving man and he shared that love with everyone.   He was one of those people who inspired those around him.  There are not many of those kind of people out in the world, but he was definitely one of the special ones.  Everyone he talked to he touched in someway and I am so glad I met him, though I wish I had spent more time with him in the past couple years.   More

A Few Months in the Mist – Part 2

Part 2

Now for more information on the different types of AD/HD as it is often not recognized.

There are 3 sub-types of AD/HD (this is the correct way to spell it).

  1. Inattentive: A person with this type must have at least six of these nine symptoms, and very few of the symptoms of hyperactive-impulsive type:
  •     Not paying attention to detail
  •     Making careless mistakes
  •     Failing to pay attention and keep on task
  •     Not listening
  •     Being unable to follow or understand instructions
  •     Avoiding tasks that involve effort
  •     Being distracted
  •     Being forgetful
  •     Losing things that are needed to complete tasks
  1. Hyperactive-Impulsive Type: To have this type, a person has to have at least six of these nine symptoms, and very few of the symptoms of inattentive type:
  •     Fidgeting
  •     Squirming
  •     Getting up often when seated
  •     Running or climbing at inappropriate times
  •     Having trouble playing quietly
  •     Talking too much
  •     Talking out of turn or blurting out
  •     Interrupting
  •     Often “on the go” as if “driven by a motor”
  1. Combined Type: This is the most common type of ADHD. People with it have symptoms of both inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive types.

Few months in the mist, part 1

It’s been a long while since I have written on my blog. I suppose you could say I got caught up in life, but I think life took over for a while and I learned a bit about myself. Probably should start where I left off . . .

I had been having issues with self-confidence and my ability to code. I do love coding and enjoy it immensely, but going from a job where I was the “go-to” person for everyone to a job that I have no actual background in is a bit on the difficult side. Might not have been too bad if I had still had a job and the structure that I like to work in, but working from home without an obvious structure or project to work on made it more difficult. I have always been good with computers, but this is on a completely different level of knowledge. I think my perfectionist personality is probably part of the problem. I know I can create a website with no problem, but I did not think it was good enough. So I have deleted many things I have created because I was not happy with it and did not believe anyone would like it (like many projects from my GitHub acct). However . . . More

A New Year

Wow have I have missed a little over a month and it’s the start of a new year, so I am thinking this might be a long one.

It has just been over a year since I left my job in commercial insurance underwriting.  It really does not feel that long ago.  I still feel that it was the best decision I have made and feel completely happy with it.  I feel so much better mentally and physically.  I have learned a lot about myself during this time and what I want to do when I grow up (LOL!).  Coding fills that workaholic need I still have for detail oriented work and love that there is always something new to learn.  However changing my mindset from a person that everyone relied on for help to someone that needs help has been a struggle.  I am not always sure what I need help with and when I need to ask for help.  I am sure once I finish learning where I feel comfortable with my abilities and once I have a job where I am coding full-time, I will find that zen zone. 😎 More

Christmas and all that jazz . . .

My husband’s Christmas party was fun. Hubby wimped out on me and we didn’t go anywhere else afterwards. We even used Uber so we could drink some and stay out. But it was nice to dress up and eat at a traditional Italian restaurant. Cafe Luna is definitely a place to go in downtown Raleigh if you want some good Italian food. Though next time we are out we are definitely going to Bitter Sweet, which is a dessert bar. Yum! More

This Past Week

This past week has been crazy!  My daughter ran a fever on and off last week, was coughing and when the fever broke she broke out in hives.  3 urgent care visits and a visit to her regular doctor came up with a virus hitting kids that sticks around for a little while.  She has been so miserable and I didn’t get much work done or sleep, as I was taking care of her and making sure she ate and drank.  More

My map, reminders and impacts

Yay me!  My reminder is working since I am doing my blog within a week of the last one.  Trying to make this a habit.  I’ve been bringing my laptop with me when I Uber, so during slow times I can study and work on my blog.  I am enjoying Uber during this time of year as most people are more upbeat because of the holidays.  More
