Week 3 and code is making some sense.

Week three . . . there is a light at the end of the tunnel.  This week there were a couple field trips to Citrix and Atlantic BT.  The class toured the facilities, received advise about what to expect and should do when looking for a job.

I have been really motivated about this Coding Immersion camp, but the first two weeks I was worried that I would not be able to keep up and possibly wasted my money.  But now, things are starting to make sense in my head and the next few weeks will be practicing what we have learned and working on projects.  The projects will become part of my portfolio that employers will look at to see what you can do.  And one thing that we keep hearing, is if you have the skills then they just need to know if they can work with you.

The programming community in the Raleigh-Durham-RTP area is great and very close knit.  They have free workshops all the time and every one that helps run them are volunteers from the programming community.  The fact these people give up a Friday and Saturday to volunteer to help others that are interested in programming is amazing and shows what a great local community there is here.

The one thing I would keep in mind is stay positive and motivated.  There are plenty opportunities out there, you just have to go get them. 🙂

Here’s a great article on older people changing their career to programming.  Very positive!
