A New Year

Wow have I have missed a little over a month and it’s the start of a new year, so I am thinking this might be a long one.

It has just been over a year since I left my job in commercial insurance underwriting.  It really does not feel that long ago.  I still feel that it was the best decision I have made and feel completely happy with it.  I feel so much better mentally and physically.  I have learned a lot about myself during this time and what I want to do when I grow up (LOL!).  Coding fills that workaholic need I still have for detail oriented work and love that there is always something new to learn.  However changing my mindset from a person that everyone relied on for help to someone that needs help has been a struggle.  I am not always sure what I need help with and when I need to ask for help.  I am sure once I finish learning where I feel comfortable with my abilities and once I have a job where I am coding full-time, I will find that zen zone. 😎 More

Ups and Downs

Blog from Nov 24th,

Hi!  It’s been a while.  I’ve been dealing with ups and downs; working out my life and how I am going to pursue it.  The bootcamp I originally took was not enough to get a job by itself.  Little disappointed in that, but I did learn a lot considering what I knew when I went [it wasn’t as much as I thought I knew].  I have someone teaching me Javascript and I am also learning via freecodecamp.com. Wish I had found this website much earlier.  It is a free code camp and your projects consist of actual site you will create for non-profit groups.  Awesome! Once you have done 400 hrs you receive a certificate for Front-End Developer and 800 hrs you receive a certificate for Full Stack Developer.  Since I already know a good bit from the bootcamp, I’m cruising through the first part.  This site teaches you HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, jQuery, Javascript, Json APIs, Ajax, [Get Front End Certificate at this point.] Angular.js, git, Node.js, Express.js, and Mongo DB.  I’m filling in the gaps with this and I like jQuery and Javascript.  Woohoo!!  It’s the little things! Inspiration Found Again

I think I have discovered my inspiration for coding again.  I did not realize I had went into a downward spiral until talking with a new-found comrade in developing on Friday via a meeting at Starbucks.  Ironic I do not drink coffee.  However I do love the smell and for some reason coffee shops are associated with one on one networking/meetings.   More

Crazy busy

Wow! I did not realize how long it has been since I typed on my blog.  Definitely need to schedule a reminder on my calendar.

It’s been an interesting couple weeks.  Having recruiters call and talk to me about what I want to do, going to workshops and meets to network and now going to my 3rd interview tomorrow for a back-end developer at a place I would really like to work.  I have been really busy and I am still unemployed.  Life will get really interesting when I do get a job.

Done and over!!

It’s been a little over a week, but I have completed the bootcamp and recovered from bronchitis.  I slept a lot last week and this weekend.  My daughter was so kind and shared the crud with me and mine turned into bronchitis.  Unfortunately I was not able to stay the entire last day of class, because I felt so bad and was not able to participate as much on our Team Project.  One of the other students on the team was sick too, so the project was not as great as I would have liked.  Of all the weeks to get sick that was definitely not the one. 😦

4 more days . . . websites and sickness

I cannot believe I only have four more days of Coding Camp!  It really does not seem that much time has passed.

Last week we began Team and Individual final websites.  The Team website we are doing is creating a Dog Rescue site. Easy to pick since 2 of us have rescued pets.  Though this weekend was hit or miss since I got sick and one of the other two mates was sick.  Of all of the weekends to get sick, it had to be the last weekend before the end of class. Ugh! More

End of week 5 – Light Bulb

Week 5 and three more weeks till I am done with the Coding Immersion camp.  Yesterday I had the Light Bulb moment when everything started making connections and I could figure out Syntax Errors on my own and they were usually just a typo of a letter or colon instead of a semi-colon.  YAY  ME!!  I am really enjoying this camp and cannot wait to begin a new career.
